Audi has recently unveiled extensive updates to its A3 Sportback and Saloon, along with some significant performance enhancements for the high-performance S3 models.

The updated Audi A3 models are initially available with two engine choices: the 1.5-litre petrol engine (35 TFSI) and the 2.0-litre diesel engine (35 TDI), both offering 150PS and paired with a seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox. These engines are designed to provide a balance between power output and fuel efficiency. Later in the year, Audi plans to expand the lineup to include a more accessible 30 TFSI and a 45 TFSI e plug-in hybrid, which aims to offer improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Design Enhancements

The latest iterations of the A3 and S3 feature significant design updates. The new frameless Singleframe grille is now wider and slimmer, reflecting a more contemporary aesthetic. This is paired with updated, flush two-dimensional Audi rings located on the grille and tailgate, enhancing the vehicle’s modern look. Additionally, the specific model designation now appears on the B-pillar, a detail first introduced in the Q8 e-tron SUV.

Rear design changes include new bumper and diffuser designs inspired by the high-performance RS 3, suggesting a sportier look and feel. New standard wheel designs have also been introduced across all models, contributing to the refreshed appearance.

Performance Upgrades: More Than Just Cosmetic

The S3 has always been powerful, but the latest updates enhance its performance to bring it closer to the RS3. Audi has increased the output of the S3’s 2.0-litre turbo engine to 328bhp and 310lb ft of torque, up from the previous 306bhp and 295lb ft. This improvement reduces the 0-62 mph acceleration time to just 4.7 seconds.

Moreover, Audi has equipped the S3 with a rear axle torque splitter from the RS3, significantly enhancing the car’s handling dynamics. This system not only boosts agility and stability but also introduces a capability for controlled oversteer, particularly noticeable in the new Dynamic+ drive mode.

Why the Upgrade?

Audi’s latest revamp of the A3 and S3 models aims to elevate the driving experience by integrating features typically found in higher-end models. This strategic update not only redefines expectations in the compact luxury segment but also ensures these models remain highly competitive and appealing to both existing Audi fans and potential new customers.

What We Like:

  • The significant increase in power and the introduction of advanced handling dynamics make the S3 thrilling to drive.
  • Technological enhancements, such as the updated infotainment system and expanded connectivity features, meet current consumer demands for high-tech vehicles.

What Could Be Better:

  • The price point, especially with the added features, could stretch the budget for some potential buyers.
